PINECONES*PINECONES*PINECONES

Authentic North Idaho Pinecones...
Handpicked with care.
For those of you who enjoy crafting with pinecones and are not fortunate enough to live where they are abundant, I am offering to share mine with you =)
***********************************************
I take great care in choosing pinecones that are not broken or crushed (although I cannot control if they get a little banged around during shipping). The pinecones you will receive are from a variety of trees, but mostly come from mature pines.
Like snowflakes, no two pinecones are alike. Each pinecone is a different size; however the average size is approximately 4" tall with a 3" diameter. Some are smaller, some are larger.
You will receive a USPS box , dimensions 12" x 12" x 8.5" with about 3 lbs of pinecones. There are APPROXIMATELY 40 pinecones in each box.

USES:
Accessorize gift wrap
Crafts
Birdfeeders
Centerpieces
Place card holders
Fire starters
Christmas Ornaments
Home décor
Garland
Potpourri
Bunny Play Toys (did you know this? You can spend $3 for a package of three small pinecones marketed as Rabbit Chew Toys!)

CLEANING:
To eliminate mold, spore, bugs, pitch & sap either bake or disinfect (but not both)
Bake:
Foil lined cookie sheet 220 20-30 minutes (or until pitch melts)
Disinfect:
Submerge pinecones and ‘swish around’ in a bucket of cool water with a dab of disinfectant. Let them dry naturally on newspaper. Do not bake after disinfecting or they will become extremely brittle.

CRAFT IDEAS:
Spiced Pinecones
You will need:
Pinecones
Ground ginger
Ground cinnamon
Or any crushed dry spice you wish
craft glue
foam brush
Mix 1 part glue to 1 part water. Use foam brush to paint the pinecone. Mix equal parts of the spices in a bowl. Sprinkle spice over the pinecone and roll in spice. When coated, allow to dry.
Uses: You can use these in baskets, glued on wreaths, or even solo, as an ornament. Hot glue a ribbon the very top of the pinecone. Add accents to the top, such as Spanish moss or raffia.
Give as a gift or place around the house for a decorative effect.
Bleached Pinecones
You will need:
Pinecones
household liquid bleach
large bucket
glass plate
a rock or brick
foil covered cookie sheet
Best done outside in a well-ventilated area. Do not splash bleach. Work carefully. Place pinecones in bucket; add bleach to cover. Place plate on top of pinecones and weight with rock or brick to keep the pinecones covered with the bleach. Allow to sit for five hours. Remove pinecones from bleach (use gloves) and place on baking sheet covered with foil. Place in 250 degree oven for several hours until they reopen completely. The time will depend on how large the pinecone is.
Great for Garland!
Fire Starters
Pinecones
Wax
Sawdust
2 Shallow box lids or water bottle box (base)
Double boiler
Foil
Cookie sheet
Scent (cinnamon or pine is nice) and Candle coloring is optional
Melt your wax in a double boiler or wax melting pot (add scent and color as desired).
While waiting for the wax to melt, prepare you work area by covering it with an old vinyl table cloth or cover it with newspapers and plastic (such as a disposable table cloth or garbage bag).
Spread sawdust in one of the shallow boxes. Lay a piece of foil inside the other shallow box.
When the wax is melted, use the tongs to dip a pinecone into the wax. I find it works best to dip the pinecone in the wax then take out and hold over the wax for a minute then re-dip. Do this 3 or 4 times until you get a good coating of wax then immediately roll it in the sawdust.
After you roll the pinecone in the sawdust, place it in the foil lined box to dry.
Place in cellophane bags with neat ribbon tie or make a gift basket to keep next to the fireplace...
Birdfeeders
Great for keeping the birds happy during the cold winter months when other food is otherwise scarce! Kids LOVE this project!
Do this on the picnic table or cover inside table with newspaper as it is a messy craft!
Tie a 3-4 foot piece of yarn around the top of the pine cone for the hanger.
Mix equal parts peanut butter with margarine.
Spread the peanut butter and margarine mixture onto the pine cone. Rubber spatula works well.
Pour some bird seed onto a plate or shallow dish and roll the pine cone in it.
Place the seed-covered pine cones in the freezer for about an hour or until it is firm.
Use twine to tie a hanger & hang it outside in a tree!
